Year of Questions

Lance Studer (DSM, Region 5 – Iowa)

Harvest in my area is in full swing.  Some farmers are already done! Yields have been all over the board on corn, ranging from 60 to 180 bushels per acre. Beans on the other hand have all stayed about the same. No bean has been outperforming the others; they are all around 45 bushels per acre.

Farmers are facing some difficult challenges and asking these questions:

1) Should we be doing deep tillage this year due to lack of soil moisture?

2) What about applying anhydrous this fall with dry conditions?

3)  What does Producers Hybrids have for drought tolerant hybrids?  What was the top performing hybrid this year?

As you work through these questions and any others that emerge, feel free to call us at Producers Hybrids.  We can help you figure out the best products for your situation.  I can answer the last question right now though – my customers have been saying that the best performing hybrid in our area is 7394.  This is the third year in a row that 7394 is my top performer in my area! We are looking forward to another great year here at Producers Hybrids and appreciate your business.

Keep In Mind…

Ed Reimers (DSM, Region 4 – Eastern Nebraska)

Harvest is in full swing and we are busy taking out plots.  As I am helping harvest the plots, it looks like the shorter season corn in my area is leading the yields on dry land.  Also, irrigated ground seems to be doing better than expected despite drought conditions.

For the upcoming year, I have heard many growers discuss reverting back to rotating their crops; therefore, there won’t be as much corn on corn acres unless it is on pivoted ground.

Many customers I have rode in combines with recently are ready to sit down and get their seed ordered for the 2013 season.  Our 12% cash discount date is pushed back a few weeks this year to October 31, 2012, which is important to remember as you put in your orders. Also, our VT3PRO refuge in a bag 90/10 split will make ordering seed corn for our customers easier than ever.  We have three new 106-108 day hybrids that have been doing very well in our plots as well. Remember all of these things as you put in your seed order this year!

Be on the lookout for yield results post cards, which will give you a clear picture of how our hybrids stack up in your area.  This will help you decide what hybrids would fit best on your farm.  Producers Hybrids will be there for all your seed needs and we are READY FOR MORE in 2013!

Have a safe harvest and I hope to see you at our after harvest meetings.

Capturing the Advantages of an Early Order

Mark Suska (RSM, Region 2 – Minnesota)

Today is September 19, 2012 and harvest is running at full throttle.  We have completed a good number of test plots so far, and Producers Hybrids is having another very successful year with performance in the field.  Please keep an eye on your mailbox as Harvest Cards are in the process of being sent out to showcase the performance we are experiencing with Producers Hybrids.

With this being said, I would like to take a moment to highlight the key factors involving an early order:

-Locking down hybrids that work on your farm:  With an anticipated increase in corn acres next year, key products could potentially sell out.  An early order will help lock down key products.

-Early Cash Discounts: Producers Hybrids is offering a 12% cash discount thru October 31st.

Early Order Seed Financing:  Producers Hybrids is offering a 4% cash discount along with 0% (interest free) financing with John Deere Financial.  Please contact your Producers Hybrids dealer or DSM for more details.

-Early Order Discount: Producers Hybrids is offering an early order discount on orders received by October 31st and paid in full by July 15th.  Contact your Producers Hybrids dealer or DSM for further details.

-Including Seed Treatments with your order:  We would like the opportunity to treat your Corn and Soybean Seed according to your needs.  Producers Hybrids is offering Poncho/Votivo as an added corn treatment and Acceleron as a soybean treatment.  Please contact your Producers Hybrids dealer or DSM on how added seed treatments can help protect your seed investment.

I would like to wish all of you a safe Harvest.  Thank you to all for your past, present, and future business. Producers Hybrids deeply appreciates the opportunity to help maximize the performance on your farm.  We are READY FOR MORE.   We look forward to talking with you in the near future to discuss your seed needs for this upcoming season and taking advantage of the Early Order.

Fall Farm Shows

What a crazy few weeks it has been!  We have been to five farm shows throughout August and September.  We started at FarmFest in Minnesota.  What a great turnout!

A few of the Minnesota State FFA Officers visited the Producers Hybrids tent during FarmFest this year. Thanks for stopping by!

Next we traveled to Mitchell, South Dakota for DakotaFest.  It was great to see everyone there!

Each day at the farm shows, we drew a winner for an iPad and registered customers to win a Homak toolbox! Jesse Biggins from South Dakota was one of the winners of an iPad during DakotaFest this year.

Farm Progress was our next stop.  Although it was a hot and dusty week, we had a fantastic turnout.  Thanks to everyone who ventured out in the heat and visited us!

Despite the tough summer, Producers Hybrids products have performed well. We showcased our products at each farm show. At Farm Progress, visitors were able to see our products up close.

Clay County Fair was another stop for Producers Hybrids this fall farm show season.  The week long fair brought many visitors to our booth, including this year’s District FFA Livestock Judging winners!

Congrats to Boyden-Hull FFA on winning the District Livestock Judging Contest at the Clay County Fair! Thanks for stopping by and visiting us!

The final Farm Show for the fall was Husker Harvest Days in Grand Island, NE.  Nebraska weather was showcased during this three day event: heat, wind, rain and sun.  It was quite the week and we had a phenomenal turnout.  Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks to everyone for coming to visit us at the Farm Shows this fall!

We value your business and appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule to come visit us at farm shows this fall.  Have a safe harvest season!

Ready for Harvest?

Dusty Rich (DSM, Region 3 – Western Nebraska)

It’s time for Corn Harvest 2012.  This year’s harvest will be full of challenges.  Are you ready?

Here are some tips as you hit the field this fall:

Check stalk quality to determine which fields are the most vulnerable to going down and harvest those first.

Prioritize your fields. This allows you to have a plan in place and a good idea of which fields are high-priority, medium-priority and low-priority.

  • Scout your fields to see if aflatoxin, fungi that is common in hot, dry ears, is present. If it is, plan to harvest that field early.
  • Look behind the combine. With the challenges we have faced this year, machine loss could be much higher than normal. Calibrate your combine to better harvest shorter plants and smaller ears.
  • Adjust on the go. Since conditions will be different in each field, it will be highly beneficial to recalibrate your combine for the changing conditions.

We wish you a safe and bountiful harvest and thank you for choosing Producers Hybrids.

Performance in the Field

Terry Thies (DSM – Region 4, Eastern Nebraska)

Well it’s been an interesting fall already…that is if you can call it fall.  In all my years in the seed business I have never seen so many combines rolling in the fields in August as we are seeing in Southeast Nebraska.   While riding in the combines, I have seen a lot of variance throughout the fields in moisture and yield due to the summer drought.  Many guys are talking about product performance in hybrids and I am happy to say that our products are looking good and have been able to handle the drought.  It also seems like the early maturities are doing a little better due to some pollination issues in some of the longer maturities, but who knows, next year it may be the opposite.  Another thing that is showing up is the use of fertilizer – it is definitely paying off with better plant health and increased root mass.

Producers Hybrids is a fast growing company due to our excellent breeding and research programs which are proprietary to us.  I am looking forward to serving you and your neighbor for years to come. Please make sure you stop by the Producers Hybrids building at Husker Harvest Days (September 11-13).  See you then!
